Rick Davis, Vocational Director

It was under unusual circumstances that I came to Home of Hope in July of 1991. My plan at that time was to work a few months and then begin my search for a “Real job”. I started working as a job coach and found that I enjoyed it so much that I began to delay my search for that job. From job coaching I spent time working in the group home program and eventually in the supported living program.

I have also spent time in the finance department and the ICFiID Program. Sometime during those first few years I decided that I no longer wanted to search for that real job. I found things that I never expected to find at Home of Hope. I found friendship with many people, clients and staff, that I still have to this day. I found that working with people and trying to make a positive impact on their lives turned out to be a blessing for myself.

The impact on me that Home of Hope and those that we serve has been one of the best experiences in my life. Some of those experiences i've seen as the director of vocational Services is the smiles on people's faces when they received their paychecks on payday. The enjoyment that they get from having a job and the excitement in their voices as they tell others about their jobs. To sum it up, I guess I never found that real job. I don't look at Home of Hope as a job. It is part of my identity. It became and is my calling.

“I found that working with people and trying to make a positive impact on their lives turned out to be a blessing for myself.”
