Home of Hope History

Born from the Struggle of the Civil Rights Movement

Personal Beginnings, Profound Results

From their earliest days, when determined parents and advocates came together to form Home of Hope, Rogers County Training Center, and Delaware County Friendship Homes, a powerful vision took root—a vision of equality, dignity, and opportunity for every person with a developmental disability. What began as a movement of families refusing to accept exclusion has grown into a powerful expression of human potential.

Today, as these three organizations unite in mission and purpose, we stand on the foundation they built—one of courage, compassion, and unwavering belief that every life holds immeasurable value. Together, we now serve more than 230 adults across eight counties in Northeast Oklahoma: Craig, Creek, Delaware, Mayes, Nowata, Ottawa, Rogers and, Tulsa. With plans to reach even more communities, we continue expanding the circle of inclusion and opportunity.

Every program we offer champions the right to live with independence, purpose, and joy. Our homes are places of belonging—safe, nurturing environments where individuals set goals, make choices, and celebrate their growth. Our caring staff walk beside them, offering support while honoring personal strength and self-determination.

Work is a cornerstone of dignity, and through our vocational programs, people discover the pride that comes with contribution and community. Whether in local businesses, our thrift stores, recycling centers, or supported work programs, each job affirms ability, builds confidence, and opens doors once thought closed.

Life here is also about joy, connection, and the full experience of community. From the thrill of Special Olympics competition to horseback riding, fishing, dances, or fitness programs, every activity reminds us that inclusion isn’t a policy—it’s a celebration of life. Our Fighting Peacocks unified softball team proudly holds the USA Games gold medal, and year after year, we lead one of the largest groups at the Oklahoma Summer Games—a living testament to what belief and opportunity can achieve together.

The story of our organization is, at its heart, a story of civil rights—the belief that equality is not given, but championed through action, compassion, and unity. Together, we continue to ensure that people with disabilities are not just welcomed but empowered, not just supported but celebrated, as vital members of a just and inclusive world.
