You have a disability. Or you don’t.
Your disability is visible to others. Or it’s not.
You let the world know. Or you don’t.
Whoever you are, wherever you find yourself in life, this journey is for all of us together.
Empower People with Disabilities.
At Home of Hope, that means creating new paths and opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Then walking with, beside, or behind people as they create their own ways in life.
Sometimes we’re good at that. Sometimes we’re not. But it’s always who we’re striving to be.
People with intellectual and developmental disabilities have lifelong conditions affecting their abilities to learn, reason, solve problems, and take on the everyday challenges of life. Many, though not all, have physical challenges that can affect everything from mobility to simple acts like feeding or clothing themselves, little things most of us take for granted. These are the men and women of Home of Hope. The ones Home of Hope was founded to serve in 1968. We serve by choosing to walk with and provide support to where needed.
The world does not always make a place for those it considers different. It is not always patient, and it is not always kind.
Where it could see people with hopes, dreams, and capabilities of their own, it often sees only limitations not worth the effort to help another fellow traveler overcome.
We can create new paths, though. Together, there are always ways to open up the next opportunity, the next step toward learning, the next chance at success, pride, and meaning.
This blog will be a place of sharing thoughts, ideas, successes, and failures that we gather along our own path. We welcome your thoughts to help us grow, and we look forward to any ways we can help you or those you love in your own efforts to create new and better paths.
